(x + 1)(x - 3) = 5
[tex] x^{2} [/tex] - 3x + x - 3 = 5
[tex] x^{2} [/tex] - 2x - 3 = 5
[tex] x^{2} [/tex] - 2x - 3 - 5 = 0
[tex] x^{2} [/tex] - 2x - 8 = 0

Maka a = 1, b = -2, dan c = -8

Bentuk umum PK :
ax² + bx + c = 0 dengan ketentuan a ≠ 0

Hilangkan kurung dengan mengali secara distributif
(x + 1)(x - 3) = 5
x² - 3x + 1x - 3 = 5
x² - 2x -3 - 5 = 0
x² - 2x - 8  = 0
Dari PK tersebut, diperoleh :
a = 1
b = - 2
c = - 8
